Dreams Do Come True

In the fall of 2014, a dream that I never thought would come true became a reality – I opened my own commercial photography studio.  Not only that, but I opened it in Yutan, my hometown that is full of some of the most amazing people I have ever met and the only place I want to be.  I had prayed about a studio since I started this journey and was beyond blessed in 2013 when my dad and husband built me one in the barn at the home where I grew up.  That studio served me very well and gave me the confidence I needed to know that this love of photography that I had was the real thing and something I wanted to pursue long term.

So, the search began for a ‘real’ studio (and by real, I mean one with running water and bathrooms, lol!).   My absolute requirements were simple – a bathroom, a small room for props, and a room big enough for shooting in with a little seating area.  My dream studio, however, would have a huge shooting area, a big seating area, a place for all my small props displayed, a prop room for bigger prop storage, a playroom, a bathroom, and a boutique.  Multiple times, I thought I had found the ‘perfect’ spot, but it never worked out. Never did I think that my dream studio was a mere 800 yards from the home I grew up in, in a building I have passed, literally, thousands of times.  But it was.  In September, I decided to investigate that little building and by October I had signed the lease and we started renovating.  The landlord was gracious enough to remodel the bathrooms (that’s right, I said bathroomS – I have two!) and paint all the walls for me.  The floors were a huge undertaking, and my husband and I, along with the help of my awesome family, tirelessly removed carpet glue and stained, painted, and polished them until they were perfect.  I had a vision in mind of the studio being filled with beautiful vintage and rustic furniture, and I was shocked when exactly what I wanted fell into my lap.  We packed up my old studio and started moving in and about 6 weeks after I discovered my little diamond in the rough, I opened the doors to my very own commercial studio.

This studio is everything I imagined it would be, from the boutique (where I sell beautiful handmade items from 15 (that’s right – 15!) vendors as well as things I’ve made myself) to the huge shooting area to everything in between.  I am still working on getting it ‘just right’, but I’ve come a long way since my days in the barn and I couldn’t be happier or more blessed!!
