Sweet Baby G

I have this crazy idea that I’m going to catch up on my blogging.  I’m only 392785 thousand sessions behind, but I’m going to try my hardest!! (ok, maybe a bit of an overstatement, but you get my point!)

First up, Baby G.  I absolutely LOVE newborn sessions, and baby G’s was no exception.  He did such a great job snoozing through his session!  We were able to get 6 different set ups in, including one with my favorite wooden bed and one using my vintage red bucket from Wayfair.com!  Apparently, I’m going through a teddy bear obsession lately, and Baby G fit in with my bears just perfectly:)   I cannot wait to watch this little guy grow!!  Also, did you see his shots with his puppy, Tanner?!  Tanner was such a good boy and I am always excited to have family pets become part of our session!

Newborn Baby Goodness

Newborn babies – is there anything better?!  The smell of their skin, the little noises they make, the way they curl up into a ball and bury themselves in your chest when you hold them – it makes me want another one right this second!  Luckily for me (and my husband, who is adamant about no more babies, lol), I have been blessed with an amazing job where I get to cuddle and squeeze and love on these little ones all day.  When I get a phone call or an email to schedule a newborn session, it makes my day because I know my next ‘baby fix’ is quickly approaching!  I love to photograph these precious little ones in ways that accentuate the beauty that is found in new life and will be a timeless and classic heirloom for their family for years to come. That brings me to little Oliver’s session.  I was so blessed to meet Oliver’s wonderful family this year during my fall mini sessions.  We hit it off and two months later, they were one of the first newborns that I welcomed into my new studio!  I loved spending the afternoon with this family – they are all genuine and kind and God fearing, all the things I love in a person.  They are truly an amazing family and I feel so blessed to have been invited into this small, yet precious, moment of their life. Oliver did so good for his session – he even posed on his daddy’s guitar for me (and his daddy can rock that guitar and sing just as well – mommy is one lucky lady!).  I hope I get to see Oliver and his family again soon – I love to watch all these little ones grow up!!

52 Week Photo Project – Finding Me – Imagination | Omaha Nebraska Photographer

52 Week Photo Project – Finding Me – Imagination

Omaha Nebraska Photographer

I’m always looking for ways to continue to express myself from behind my lens, so I jumped in this week on a photography project called Finding Me.  The idea behind the project is to take time once a week and be creative with your camera; to go out and shoot something that is just for YOU and nobody else.  This weeks theme was ‘Imagination’ and it was the perfect theme for me! Those that know me know that my creative juices run deep.  Whether I am coming up with elaborate sets for photo shoots, crafting things for my boutique, or just trying to solve a problem, I always do it creatively.  I told my husband, if I were a fairy, I would be a tinker fairy like Tinkerbell, because I love to play around with things and make them into something new.

This past week, eastern Nebraska was blanketed with nearly 10 inches of snow – gorgeous, white, heavy snow.  The way it hung off of the trees was breathtaking and I was SO anxious to get outside with my camera.  I had an idea last winter for photos, but never had time to do it, so I took all the stuff out of the closet and got busy creating the image in my head (my sweet husband even stopped at the fabric store for me to get the final piece of my outfit – <3 him!!).  Brett and I drove around and found the perfect spot and we jumped out into the cold snow and wind to make my idea a reality.

The edit itself took quite some time, as I had to piece the gown together layer by layer, as well as place in the birds.  I have been snapping shots of birds for a year just to use on this photo!  It’s funny, with the wig and the feathers and the crazy eyelashes, I don’t think it even looks like me!!  A friend called it ‘the dragon lady’ picture and all the red of the dress flowing around me kind of makes me feel like a dragon – strong, powerful, and daunting.

I hope you enjoy these photos of the process and the finished image.  Please stay posted to my page as I plan to do a lot more fun and creative composites like this one in this coming year!!  To check out some more amazing and creative shots from my friends who also participated, please start by clicking this link to view the awesome photo put together by the wonderful Jennifer Esneault of Jennifer Esneault Photography.  Her work is amazing and creative and I always love to see what she comes up with!!!

Sunset Family Session

How do you create amazing family photos?? Sunset? Check. Beautiful fall colors? Check. A gorgeous family with two adorable little ones running and playing and laughing? Check, check, check. Even though I do now have a beautiful indoor 1600 sq ft studio in Yutan Nebraska (just outside of Omaha) (you can see some of our adorable indoor shots too!), my heart remains with the setting sun.  The colors, the ambiance, the feeling of being in the presence of such beauty – it’s almost more than I can handle!  I love photographing not just families in the sunset, but any kind of session – seniors, children, even babies (if the temperature is right, of course:)).  My fall sessions definitely kept me booked up for the year and I can’t wait to meet the amazing new clients that come to me this year!!  If you are considering booking a fall family photo session with JS Photo Studios, I would encourage you to please plan ahead.  Because of the beauty of the fall colors and the last little bit of beautiful weather before the snow begins to fall, these sessions book up two to three months in advance and openings are limited.

A Fork in the Road – Finding Courage Over Fear |Yutan and Omaha Nebraska Photographer

So, I find myself at a fork in the road and I feel like I’ve been standing here a long time.  I have tried to take a step down each road and I quickly pull my foot back each time.  The roads go in two very different directions – one road leads to my dream of being a full time photographer, but is laced with things that I’m afraid of.  The other is a nice easy path, the same path I have lived on for some time, but one that I know won’t make me happy in the end.  Do you ever feel this way?  I know all those sayings, like “If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.”, but those are so much easier to say than to actually act upon.  I have been searching for inspirational quotes to give me the courage to take that leap, and I have come up with a couple I really like.  C. JoyBell C. says, ‘“Don’t be afraid of your fears. They’re not there to scare you. They’re there to let you know that something is worth it.”, and I really love this so much.  It’s really something I feel like I need to hear.  Another quote I love says, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” That comes from the mouth of nobel prize winner, Mr. Nelson Mandela .  Of course of all of these, the quote that inspires me the most and brings me the most comfort comes from the book that I rely on to lead me through life – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; lean not on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do and He will guide your paths.”  Proverbs 3:5-6.  I truly feel God has brought me to this fork in the road for a reason – I feel He has big things planned for me and my business.  Now, if I can just convince myself to trust that feeling I have and choose to walk down the side of the road that leads to my dream.  I’m almost there, I really am.  I just have to let go of my fear…
